Tape Formats: QIC Cartridge Tapes

QIC is the acronym for quarter inch tape, referring to the width of the original tape. QIC cartridges are often times used to backup personal computers. QIC is a standard for magnetic tape drives and is divided into to general classes: 5.25" full size (also called data cartridge) and 3.5" minicartridge. Minicartridges have been enhanced with wider and longer tapes (QIC-Wide, QIC-EX and Travan).
