Tape Formats: DDS Cartridges

4mm tapes are the standard for DAT (digital audio tapes). 4mm tapes are designed for backing up large amounts of data where speed is not essential. With 4mm tapes, there are four different tape sizes: 90M, 120M, 125M, and 150M. The 90M DAT tape holds 2GB of data, the 120M holds 4 GB of data, the 125M holds between 12 (uncompressed) and 24 (compressed) GB of data, and the 150M holds between 20 (uncompressed) and 40 (compressed) GB of data. 4mm tapes are popular because of their high reliability, high capacity and small size.
